Yesterday, the whole of Hollywood held it’s breath as the nominations for the 84th Academy Awards were announced.
The silent movie that made all the noise at Golden Globes, The Artist, scooped an impressive ten nominations. However, it was Martin Scorsese’s Hugo that stole the show with eleven nominations.
The two films will face off in many categories, most notably Best Picture where they will come up against The Descendants and Spielberg’s War Horse- it’s not going to be an easy win.
George Clooney and Meryl Streep have emerged favourites to take the Best Actor and Actress awards respectively, though they face competition from Jean Dujardin for The Artist and Michelle Williams for her role in My Week With Marilyn.
Veteran actor Gary Oldman has also been awarded a nomination for his role as master spy George Smily in Tinker Tailor Solider Spy..
The hilarious Melissa McCarthy was nominated for her supporting role in Bridesmaids, contending with the actresses from The Help, Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain. The ceremony, that will be held on February 26 at the Kodak Theatre, is set to be one full of surprises.
