Just before this weeks Mulberry Autumn/Winter 2012 show at London Fashion Week, the fashion house announced that American songstress Lana Del Rey was the inspiration behind their new handbag.
The 25-year-old Born To Die singer took her place in the front row at the Mulberry show in London’s Claridges Hotel, clutching the bag carrying her name in a soft white Ostrich.
Del Rey has in the past few months released a smash hit album, yet also managed to split the music world’s opinion on her sound and style, with some critics labelling the album as ‘dull, dreary, hollow and emotionless.’ However, the fashion world has definitely embraced the starlet with classic handbag brand Mulberry approaching her last year after seeing her ‘Video Games’ music video.
Mulberry Creative Director Emma Hill said on the design: “I love Lana’s nostalgic references to bygone glamour and the fact that her look is retrospective yet so modern. This inspired us to create a bag that was timeless, refined and elegant. As soon as the sketches were completed it felt so familiar, loaded with classic Mulberry heritage DNA.”
After the enormous success of the Alexa, inspired by model and presenter Alexa Chung, Del Rey’s name is now, at least for this season, en vogue.
Del Rey said of the bag: “I love the design, a perfect mix between old school Hollywood and contemporary style. It’s an honour that such a classic and prestigious brand would name a bag after me.”
Also seen today in the furry-seated front row amongst a bevy of golden balloons at the Mulberry catwalk were Olivia Palermo, Elizabeth Olsen, American Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour and Azalea Banks.
