November 27th saw the most influential names in British fashion descend in their voguish multitudes upon the Savoy Hotel, in order to celebrate the success and development of British fashion at the British Fashion Awards 2012.
Hosted by the stunning Gemma Arterton and radio DJ Nick Grimshaw, the star-studded event was the sartorial highlight of the fashion season.
Following her monumental success in designing the Olympic outfits, Stella McCartney capped a memorable year by picking up the prestigious Designer Of The Year award as well as Designer Brand Of The Year award.

Among the many who opted for one of McCartney’s incredible designs, was model Kelly Brook, wowing in an elegant and simplistic, low cut LBD. In an interview, Kelly Brook said it was “really nice to be amongst such amazing creative people, the highlight was to meet everyone who I saw at London Fashion Week and I got the chance to congratulate Philip Tracey, for what was my favourite show of the season.” The model also commended Rita Ora on her fantastic performance. Her singing was not the only thing to wow, as Ora dazzled on the red carpet in an elegant, off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood gown.
Also triumphing on the red carpet and in the fashion award stakes was one of the hottest names in British Fashion, Cara Delevingne, who walked away with the Model Of The Year award. On collecting her award from Ellen Von Unwerth, the Burberry clad model, was left speechless, saying; “This is madness, I can’t explain what a shock it is to be standing in front of you all right now. It is unbelievable, even to be nominated was such a shock.”
Delevingne was by no means the only young female to bag an award, as model turned TV presenter Alexa Chung was presented, for the third time, with the award for British Style as voted for by the British public. Chung, as usual, was ahead of trend in a Simone Rocha Spring Summer 13 dress, accompanied by Nicholas Kirkwood’s Belle Epoque Embroidered Mesh Booties. “It’s really lovely to win this again. I live in New York now and often get very homesick so it’s nice to know that people still remember me.”

Samantha Cameron, the stylish wife of David, looked elegant in a Tory Blue Erdem number as she presented the New Establishment Award to the eponymous designer Erdem himself.
In a night that showcased to the rest of the world all that was British and all that was beautiful, Mexican actress Salma Hayek summed up the evenings proceedings by saying that “you can just feel the energy of people being so proud of being British, being so ready to be the best at everything.” Princess Beatrice said on the red carpet; “It’s been a great year for Britain, but an even better one for British fashion.”
